I hope you have had a good weekend. This week we have NSPCC Number Day on Friday – please remember that this is a non uniform day (number themed if possible.) Please send in a £1.00 donation on the day- thanks.
Also this week some of our pupils will attend the Young Voices Concert. This will be alongside lots of other children from across the region.

Miss Davies (Safeguarding Lead and Families officer) through working with our families identified target areas that will engage and support the community. These include:
· Personal Support – clothes stop, food, meal support, hygiene products, sanitary products, cleaning products, nappies and baby food. We are also wanting to invite services in order to be able to signpost struggling families to local support and professional services, we could like to hold fund raising events and coffee mornings. If you have any ideas that you would like to put forward, please let Miss Davies know.

You will have seen reports in the national media that the National Education Union (NEU) is planning to stage strike action, with the first date being 1st February 2023. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government and not because of any issues particular to our school. Please be aware that all schools will make their own arrangements depending on how many teachers are in the NEU and are striking.
I can now tell you that Denaby Main will remain open to all children on February 1st which is the first strike day. I will be in touch regarding the other strike days as soon as possible.

Draft homework policy
Yesterday we discussed our draft homework policy with the school. Our next steps is to take feedback from parents, pupils and teachers. More information soon.
We have decided to encourage more children to get onto our Reading Challenge board by awarding stickers for those that read at least 3 days per week. Please help your child by signing their reading diary- thank you.

Eco Council
We have put a compost bin outside of the Hub. Eco Council will be collecting fruit skins from the KS1 classrooms. Please feel free to add any fruit waste to our bin- Thanks
In gardening enrichment we have collected the leaves at the front into a large pile. We will create a leaf mould bin soon. When this is finished we will plant grass seeds.

Keep your child safe online
It is important to have regular conversations about staying safe online and to encourage children to speak to you if they come across something worrying online.
Talk to your child about the importance of creating a safe online environment, including keeping any log-in details and passwords safe.
These resources will support you to talk to your child about a range of online safety issues, set up home filtering in a child-friendly way and set up age-appropriate parental controls on digital devices:

Childnet has developed guidance for parents and carers to begin a conversation about online safety, as well as guidance on keeping under-fives safe online

National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) – guidance for parents and carers to help keep children safe online

Children’s University
We will be awarding hours to children who volunteer in school for example as a Playground Leader, Eco or School Councillor.
Graduation
- Children receive a BRONZE certificate when children have collected 30 hours in their Passport to Learning.
- The next one will be a SILVER certificate for 65 hours.
- Then a GOLD certificate for 100 hours.
- Thereafter, children will then get certificates at every stage of 30, 65 and 100 hours after that, all the way up to 1,000 hours!
- Children only need to collect 30 hours in their passport to be invited to our Children’s University Graduation!
- Children will be invited to the annual CU graduation ceremony held at Doncaster College & University Centre.
- Children wear a mortar board cap and gown and are presented with a special graduation certificate.
- Families, friends and teachers are invited, with talks from guest speakers and performances where possible
Remember if children read at least 3 times in the week (proposed 3 x to encourage more children )and have their reading diary signed they can earn stickers on their chart. These stickers earn the children a prize for each milestone they hit. We will also feature their photo in the school hall and in this news post. So please support your child to read as much as possible. Thank you.
