Yesterday we held a School Council meeting

Don’t forget the Jubilee picnic on Friday. Please let us know if you are able to attend so we can make our arrangements- thank you. Also don’t forget the dress up through the decades challenge!

Prox & Reverie are a Doncaster based creative studio who create exciting new experiences for clients including WarnerMedia, Cadbury’s and The Science Museum Group.

We would like to invite families with curious children aged 7-11 (Keystage 2) to join us on the afternoon of the 31st May from 2.30pm onwards to help shape an exciting project about the future of TV.

We are working with the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford to create an exhibition that celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the BBC. The exhibition, which opens in July 2022 will imagine a talent show of the future, exploring the future of TV and how you will be the stars of the future.

We would love it if you could come along to our studio in the heart of Doncaster* to become a future ‘Star of the Show’, helping us test the design and technology for the exhibition. You will get to play with future technology, do a little bit of dancing, shape our characters and tell us your thoughts about what you like to watch and play.

Don’t forget you can wear your PE Kit on PE days.

We have been encouraging all children to wear the correct PE kit over the next few weeks.

  • Child to have a verbal warning the first time it is forgotten.
  • A text will be sent home on the second time it is forgotten.
  • A phone call home will happen on the third occasion (or speak to parents when they collect their child).

Please remember that children should not be wearing jewellery other than a watch and stud earrings. For PE these should be removed however if this is not possible we will supply the children with some tape to cover them up. This is for health and safety reasons.

School Uniform

We have a number of children coming to school wearing jewellery. Can I reminded you that the only jewellery children should be wearing is a watch and small earrings if ears are pierced. Thank you.

 

Information for Year 1 parents.

 

How will the children know which words are ‘alien’ (nonsense) words?

The made-up ‘alien’ words are always presented with a picture of an alien, so the children know that they are not real words that they might recognise. They are very familiar with this concept.

 

How will the phonics screening be administered?

Each child is taken through the screening check by a teacher on a 1:1 basis. This will be in a quiet area and there is not a time limit.

 

Will we be told about our child’s results?

The results of the check will be issued in the end of year reports.

 

What is the pass mark?

The standard threshold pass mark for this year’s phonics screening check will be published on Monday 27 June (after the children have sat the check). Last year the pass mark was 32 out of 40.

 

What happens if my child doesn’t pass the phonics screening check?

Any child that does not reach the standard threshold will sit the 2020 screening check when they are in year 2, with the following year’s cohort of year 1s.

 

When will the phonics screening take place?

The government requires that the check must be taken during the week commencing 10th June. A pupil may only take the check the following week if they were absent during check week.

If a pupil doesn’t take the check during this period and returns to school after Friday 21st June they must be recorded as absent.

 

How can we support our child out of school?

Support your child by sharing their Read Write Inc reading books at home and practice red words, green words and unknown sounds.

Read as much as possible to and with your child. When children become more capable readers they develop the skill of word recognition. However, it is important that children continue to practise good sounding out and blending so they don’t fall into the trap of guessing the wrong word.

 

Which phonics phase will the phonics screening check focus on?

The check includes graphemes from all of the phases taught to the children since they started school. (Phases 2-5) Read Write Inc sets 1-3.

 

We are launching Children’s University in the next few weeks. We will be taking part in this because we want children to

  • Feel they have grown in confidence and self-belief
  • Enjoy new experiences, in new places and want to keep exploring
  • Believe they have a broader range of essential skills
  • Feel empowered to make positive choices about their future
  • See learning that is fun, aspirational and lifelong

 

 

Doncaster Reading Challenge

KS2 children (Years 3- 6) have brought their Doncaster Reading Challenge folders home. Inside the folders you will find a reading map on which the children can record the books they read at home. During the summer term there will be certificates and prizes for children filling their map.
